Without doubt, football is the most popular game in our country; so it is
not suprising that Turkey is a place where football terror is taking part. I
think the most important reason of this is that the supporters of each team are
too passionate. As a supporter, I also watched the events at matches last year
closely. It gave me the oppurtinty to examine the events more detailedly.
Turkish supporters of football teams are so passionate about their teams
that they support them in any case. Specially in derbies, this passion levels
increase. If their team lose aganist the other team, some supporters can become
crazy. They throw whatever they find to field –specially water bottles- At some
matches like between Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe hooligan supporters crossed the
frontier and took the lifes of other team’s supporters. However; some
columnists think that the reason of this events is the lack of lawful
guarantee. They think that kind of events take place because even when
supporters go in to stadium, they aren’t checked properly. As a result, it
becomes easier to carry harmful things with you.
The federation has decided that in derbies the supporters of opponent
teams cannot go in to stadium. They think that they can prevent some bad events
with the help of this decision. I can’t say it hasn’t made any difference but
we should make decisions that can help us in long periods.
